About Us

The Tribal population of India is about 70 million constituting nearly 7.5 percent of the country's total population. Major concentration of tribal is in the North East Region comprising the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram Nagaland and Tripura. A total of about 8 million tribals inhabit this region accounting for over one-fourth of the region's total population. Due to historical and geographical reasons the tribal areas have remained underdeveloped. Although the efforts made by the central and the State Governments to improve the lot of these people over the last five decades have brought about perceptible change in their life and social environs, poverty, illiteracy and inadequacy of the basic minimum facilities continue to stare at their faces. They have come some way, but still have to go a long way to be anywhere near the relatively better off fellow countrymen. The tribal people today want change, they want to live a better life. There is the potential as well as urge for development. What is needed is a helping hand andwell - directed efforts.

The tribal Development Foundation plans to extend a helping hand to these people and initiate properly directed efforts for their development not with a patronizing attitude but with due respect to and an appreciative understanding of their problems.

TDF as a community-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to improving education, livelihoods, healthcare, skill development, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation among tribal communities, while emphasizing sustainable and participatory development.

The main objectives for which the Trust is established are to promote the DEVELOPMENT, CULTURAL, ECONOMIC, ART, LITERARY, SOCIAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER FORM OF PEOPLE AT LARGE AND IN PARTICULAR THE TRIBAL PEOPLE IN INDIA AND ABROAD.
